The strategy targets emissions from all Samsung operations worldwide. It also covers emissions from the company’s vast supply chain and product usage. Reducing these indirect emissions, known as Scope 3, is critical. Samsung believes tackling its entire environmental impact is necessary.

Immediate action starts with the Device eXperience (DX) Division. This division handles consumer products like phones and TVs. Its goal is achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030. The Device Solutions (DS) Division, making chips and displays, faces bigger hurdles. Its target for net zero is 2040. Both divisions will use more renewable energy. They plan to invest in high-efficiency technology.

Samsung committed to the global RE100 initiative last year. This means using 100% renewable electricity across all international operations by 2050. The company expects to hit this target for all operations outside Korea by 2027. Korea presents a bigger challenge. Samsung aims for renewable power there by 2030.

Significant investment is planned for developing new carbon capture technology. Samsung sees this as vital for eliminating unavoidable emissions. Water management is another key focus. The company pledges to treat all wastewater used in semiconductor manufacturing. It also aims to secure water resources for communities near its factories.

The roadmap emphasizes collaboration. Samsung will work closely with its suppliers. Suppliers must adopt stricter environmental standards. Samsung will support them in setting their own carbon reduction targets. Tracking progress requires transparency. Samsung promises regular updates on its journey to zero emissions. Independent verification will ensure accuracy. The company views this plan as essential for its long-term future.
