If you were wondering about the time when Apple’s iPhone 4S gets dethroned of its reign, it has finally arrived. Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S3 has surpassed top selling US smartphone in the month of August.
According to Canaccord genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley who has been keeping a check on the tracks of the mobile sales since a decade, “We believe this is the first month since the iPhone 4S launched in October 2011 that it was not the top-selling smartphone in the U.S. market”. Walkley has been conducting research surveys involving retailers in 50 to 100 stores in large cities and major distributors every month to observe how the demands and sales of the smartphones are varying.
The iPhone 4S which was initially launched with Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel, AT&T later extended to a large number of other channels, maintained a top position since it was launched. Now, that Samsung has replaced its rival amid many lawsuits, speculations are running high. The analysts are of the opinion that this sudden fall is however not indicating Apple’s lesser popularity among customers. It is being said that consumers are merely waiting for the next version of iphone i.e iPhone 5 to hit the markets and then Apple will retain its top place in the smartphone race. The company is expected to unveil the phone officially next week whose photos and videos have already been leaked. It has even sent out media invitations to an event where the announcements will be made on Sep 12.
So, as the history strikes off, Apple will return to its hot spot soon enough. Talking about other makers, Nokia, HTC and Blackberry are still struggling low. Nokia is however, likely to create its presence again with the release of Lumia 820 and 920 running Windows 8 software. But for the time being, there is no improvement in their shares composition and the competition holds between Apple and Samsung only. The two companies which were also in news over the patent infringement claims where Samsung lost and was ordered to pay $1.05 billion in damages seems to stay in this lock only. Apple has also recently filed further motions, requesting federal courts to ban other Samsung devices which include Galaxy S3 as well.
Both the companies are striving for the crown but the position belongs to only one. So, let us wait and watch how this battle turns out and who claims the ultimate position in the market and in the hearts of the consumers.
