With Windows 8, rumor is that Microsoft will also be launching the new version of its Office Suite, Office 2013. No official dates and prices have been yet released but Office 13 will be a delight for both home and professional use, as the reviewers are stating. The subscription will also come with cloud services which may include free storage space and Skype world calling minutes. A RT-version for the ARM based tablets is also scheduled along with other releases. A host of new features have been introduced, so the bet is prices may still be the deal. But, for chunks of exciting features, people won’t mind paying a little more money.
To take up on this suite, the requirement would be a Windows 7 or 8 system or a Windows RT tablet. No Mac version has been announced yet. The speculation is Office 13 is specially optimized for use on tablets. So, Smartphones and Tab users, gear up!
Talking about the interface, if it was the ribbon that upset you, now it’s optional. So, you have the option to hide or display the extensive toolbars according to your needs. The screen will now be looking less crowded with more blank (white) space available. Then there are Start pages that help you attain recent documents and templates immediately after launching. More cloud friendly approach, the buttons are radical and flat too. The basic apps of the Office Suite have been upgraded and made compatible to be used with touch-screen tablets and phones. New version of word will allow you to flip through the documents like a book and watch even video within them. Along with some time saving features like options to delete sections of a document with a click and a navigation pane to let you know your location in the document, the theme seems fresh and full of convenient set of tools. All the complex actions that you had to perform in earlier versions are now as simple as making a click.
The new Enterprise services also include updated Exchange, Sharepoint and Lync aimed at integrating the whole enterprise in a well communicated and secure way. New social features ad Skype collaboration also aims for the same purpose. Office meetings and demonstrations may undergo huge impact this way. By default, Office 13 will save documents in cloud via Skydrive. This way, management on several devices simultaneously may get lot easier.
