Folks, if you were waiting for that inexpensive tab with all the latest and interesting features, here is the time you finally pick this one. Karbonn Mobiles after releasing a number of budget smartphones will now be launching ‘Smart Tab 1’ tablet PC running on Google’s newest Android Operating system in India.
“Smart Tab 1 will be available within this month,” Karbonn Mobiles’ Executive Director Shashin Devsare said. “Herein through our technological collaboration with MIPS Technologies and product alliance with Ingenic Semiconductor, we are proud to present the world’s first Smart Tab 1(Tablet PC) loaded with Android ‘Jelly Bean’ technology,” Karbonn Mobiles’ Managing Director Pradeep Jain said.
Ideally priced at Rs.6990 the tab comes with MIPS-based MIPS-Based JZ4770 SoC from Ingenic as its running base. This JZ4770 demonstrates the simple MIPS architecture which results in extremely low power consumption, high performance and excellent functional integration. MIPS Technologies is a California based company providing chip-based technology while the China-based Ingenic Semiconductor is responsible for developing processors.
“Millions of tablets are already shipping around the globe based on our design, and we anticipate increasing success as more and more companies recognize the differentiation our solution can enable,” says Qiang Liu, Chairman and CEO of Ingenic Semiconductor.
Looking at the features of the Smart Tablet:
• 17.8cm capacitive 5-point touch screen
• 1.2GHz single core X-Burst processor
• 3D gravity sensor
• Wi-Fi Support and 3G integration using USB Dongle
• 3700 mAh battery, through which the device is capable of delivering 8 hours of video playback and 7 hours of internet, as claimed by the company
• 2-megapixel front camera, featuring HDMI port
• Full video HD playback up to 1080p
• Some applications have been pre-embedded like Karbonn Smart Browser and Karbonn Smart Games
• The tab sports local apps like Facebook, Times of India app etc.
Although the onboard storage has not been yet declared but considering the price, it’s not going to be much. However, the tab has a microSD card slot through which the memory will be expandable up to 32 GB.
The company has started pre-booking of the tab through its website. For promotional affairs, it will also offer a free upgrade to its existing customers from Android Ice Cream Sandwich to Android Jelly Bean. This latest Android OS is regarded as faster than all previous versions in terms of accessing application in smart devices like tabs and phones.
The company also said that it wants to acquire prominent share in the market, aiming to sell about 200 thousand units per month by focusing on business solutions segmentation, education, healthcare and other fast growing verticals. Now, how this tab competes with the likes of Zync Z990 tablet and the Micromax Funbook is to be watched.
